1. How do I donate my old car?
Use these simple steps.
- Drive your old car to Urbanmine at 72 Rothwell in South Winnipeg, just off Route 90, south of Sterling Lyon Parkway.
- Need a tow? Call Urbanmine at 204.774.0192
- Come in with your car to Urbanmine and sign the donation registry.
- Urbanmine will notify Habitat of the weight of your car and the value of the metal.
- Habitat then issues you a charitable receipt for the value of the metal within 2 weeks.
- Urbanmine sends the proceeds from the metal sale to Habitat for Humanity.
Urbanmine is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive your car donation. No appointment is necessary.
2. How much will Habitat for Humanity make over a year?
That really depends on how many vehicles Winnipeggers donate. The hope is that in the first year the program will attract enough cars and generate enough proceeds from the metal resale
to pay for one $150,000 Habitat home.
3. How does Urbanmine make money on this?
Urbanmine will not be making a profit on the program at any point.
As a friend of Habitat for Humanity, Urbanmine will even absorb the costs of crushing and shipping the cars for at least the first year.
4. How long will the program operate?
Both Urbanmine and Habitat have agreed to operate the program. The hope is that it creates a steady and reliable income for Habitat for years to come.
5. How large of a charitable receipt will a donor receive for donating their beater?
That really depends on metal prices, which fluctuate with the market demand. And it depends on the size of the vehicle. But it could amount to several hundred dollars per car based on
today’s metal prices and an average car size. |
